How the Lotto 6/49 draw works
Every Lotto 6/49 draw picks 6 numbers out of 49 and a Bonus Number, seven different numbers from 1 to 49. On this site the main numbers are listed from lowest to highest and the Bonus Number comes last, set apart from them.
The Bonus Number comes out of the same draw as the main numbers and is never one of them. You do not choose it: it only matters if one of the numbers on your line matches it.
A line wins according to how many of its numbers match, and the game conditions fix the prize for each level. The checker above counts the matches of one line; for a prize, the corporation where you bought the ticket has the final word.

What one Lotto 6/49 play gives you
A $3 Lotto 6/49 play is one line of six numbers from 1 to 49, called the Classic Selection, plus a ten-digit Gold Ball Draw Number that the computer prints on the ticket. The numbers on this page belong to the Classic Draw: six main numbers and a Bonus Number, seven different numbers from 1 to 49.
The Gold Ball Draw picks one of the ten-digit numbers issued for that draw. Its result is not shown on this site, and a ticket can win there even when its six numbers win nothing. Source: the Lotto 6/49 game conditions as published by OLG, in force since January 22, 2024; checked October 13, 2026.
The Bonus Number is not a sixth match
Five main numbers plus the Bonus Number make level 5/6+, not a 6/6 line: all six main numbers are needed for 6/6. The game conditions list seven winning levels for a line:
- 6/6: the six main numbers;
- 5/6+: five main numbers and the Bonus Number;
- 5/6: five main numbers without it;
- 4/6: four main numbers;
- 3/6: three main numbers;
- 2/6+: two main numbers and the Bonus Number;
- 2/6: two main numbers without it.
With four or three main numbers, the Bonus Number changes nothing; it only splits the levels at five and at two main numbers. A line with just two main numbers is therefore already a winning line in Lotto 6/49, worth having checked before the ticket is thrown away. When the checker says “2 of 6 main numbers match; the Bonus Number matches”, that is level 2/6+. What each level pays is confirmed by the corporation that sold the ticket.
Why we never publish hot numbers
Every set of six numbers from 1 to 49 has the same chance in every Classic Draw, whatever came up before. There are 13,983,816 different sets of six (49 × 48 × 47 × 46 × 45 × 44, divided by 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1), and the game conditions give the odds of 6/6 for a single selection as one in 13,983,816: each set is exactly one of those chances.
No list of “hot” or “cold” numbers drawn from past results can make any set more likely; such a list only narrows which sets someone plays.
The draw itself is random by design. Since May 2019 the Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 numbers have been drawn by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation with a random number generator that is independently tested and certified, and a parallel draw is run at Loto-Québec as an extra audit (OLG’s How to Play Lotto Max page, checked October 13, 2026).
Before you claim a prize
Before you claim a prize or throw out a Lotto 6/49 ticket, have it scanned at a retailer or checked with the corporation that sold it, since the Gold Ball Draw, ENCORE and EXTRA results are not on this site.
A ticket from Ontario, Quebec or any other province is checked against these same Classic Draw numbers: the draw is national. Use the checker under the latest draw, or check a whole ticket line on Check my numbers; for a Wednesday or Saturday further back, open its date in past winning numbers.
How each result is labelled is set out in what Confirmed and Unconfirmed mean, and the two publishers we compare are described in where these numbers come from.
